Thinking of Getting a Car Insurance after typhoon Ondoy

Nature's (or was it heaven's?) wrath left most of Luzon areas covered with mud and dirty waters submerging and ruining everything from the most insignificant to the most valuable. The affected areas where rendered 'lifeless' save for the people who, despite the tragedy, are trying to give meaning to life. And the most valuable actually is that there are living survivors still; and not leaving no one to share the agony.

In this post, I said a piece of not wanting any insurance any agent will offer. But the situation the tragedy left had me pondering what BW mentioned that insurances have purposes, also a protection when something happens. I suddenly thought of free insurance quotes that are always available in the net to browse through.

I learned that an office mate's house was greatly devastated. The waters from a creek beside the house left nothing dry and functioning. All four cars, pieces of plush furniture and accessories, and ace appliances were submerged in ceiling high flood waters. All other valuables were either missing, broken, or drenched. And there is another story from another fellow employee, and another, and another. Truly terrifying but an eye-opener.

In the midst of such tragedies, like the tragedy typhoon Ondoy gave, each and every one is equal or even - no rich, no poor; no intelligent, no stupid; no beautiful, no ugly - just like how it is fair in love and war. Mother-in-law is definitely wrong saying things about the dead people, "Mayaman naman siya nang mamatay." As if that matters when one dies.

Photohunt: Twisted

It is only now, September 27, 2009, that we have dial tone and internet connection. The devastating effects of typhoon Ondoy which outdid hurricane Katrina with its outpouring of 410 mm against 380 mm left everybody sad, and those directly affected truly grief-stricken. The number of those displaced is big and rescue from the government seems to be slow-moving.

The whole thing turned TWISTED and unexpected. Who would have thought it will affect 80% of Metro Manila, where the nation's capital, Manila, is located and was not spared? The television mentioned that death toll rose to 75 already but there are still others missing and unaccounted for.

Last Saturday, because traffic was not moving anymore, my friend and I forced ourselves to walk from work to home. We braved the murky waters in some flooded areas. It was only up to the knee when we passed but the rained continued and those areas where the flood was only up to the knee rose up to the chest. My friend was able to reach home only this morning. I was so petrified because I was trying to contact her and she was not replying from the time we separated at EDSA. I am just so thankful she is safe just as Daryl was also able to get home safe when he braved the flooded road from SM North to our house.

I hope you don't think it's a TWISTED contribution to the theme.

Would You Want to be an Insurance Agent?

Frankly, I do not know if a lot are still interested in insurances in this dire times of gloomy economic conditions everywhere. I just have this hunch that maybe if given the chance, most people will look for jobs not with the nature that of insurance agents who look for increased sales via life insurance leads, for example.

I was never a believer of insurances, and I guess until now, I am not. I feel uneasy thinking that my money will be used by others while I wait for it to mature. I feel uneasy that something might happen to the insurance company and I cannot get anything anymore from my own money. I had this kind of thinking ever since, long before the brouhaha about those insurance companies erupted.

This is not a justification to my incompetence to sustain the monthly, or quarterly, or yearly amortizations. I am not just comfortable with the idea. And because of this, I will never, for the life of me, be an insurance agent. Never. And please do not misconstrue it that I mean ill against the job.

Traffic in the Air?

I couldn't have been late the other day if not for the traffic. Everyday to work except Mondays, we have to pass through the main thoroughfares which is EDSA and Quirino Avenue. Filipinos are very poor when it comes to discipline that even if a traffic man is already in the center of the road, some motorists ignore him and continue with their strategies to outdo other motorists. Now, if you are the hot tempered type, you'll always end up in a brawl.

The corner of the road across Quirino Avenue and that leads me to work, for example, portrays a typical example of how undisciplined the drivers can become. This road is where some of the passenger jeeps pass through. What most of the drivers do is wait for the passengers along the corner beside the gasoline station. But PUJs are not the only ones that pass through this road of course and when they stop and wait for their passengers, traffic sets in because they do not want to give way for the other PUJ drivers to get passengers, too, and instead of stalling the jeepney on the part where it could not accumulate traffic, these drivers literally station in the middle of the road. The honks are even ignored that it seemed these drivers are not only greedy but they also have hearing loss.

The indiscipline that has been increasing as days go by causes accidents and even such situations do not deter these wayward motorists to continue being inconsiderate and uncontrolled.

Anyway, this leads me to think if the means of transportation in the air, individually or in groups, for example, and not talking about airplanes and helicopters and jets, could cause traffic and accidents. Papsie said that it could be worse. I argued that it could not be because the space is vast and it would be safe for everyone to travel. But maybe Papsie was right, it is the absence of concrete passageways that would contribute to the traffic and accidents. The more motorists feel that they have that enough space, the more that they fly out-of-whack thinking that the space above is vast. For Daryl, it is more likely to cause accidents when travel is in the air because he thinks it will be harder still to establish rules in the sky.

Sleeping Apart

I laughed at an article with a suggestion to the readers that to have a healthy life, you have to sleep apart from your husband, or from your wife. It sounded ridiculous to me when I read the first few lines. But as I go along, maybe the doctor has a point.

I thought of the movie Sleeping with the Enemy. While the movie portrayed the woman’s partner as someone who had bad intentions for her, sleeping with your husband or a partner that contributes to your bad health is almost synonymous though not intentional.

In the article, it was suggested that husbands and wives, or partners, should not sleep together. Dr. Neil Stanley of Britain said that sleeping should be like eating and exercising properly. But in the situation of a husband and a wife where they sleep together, it is truly detrimental to the health of both, he said. Different kinds of illnesses can be acquired like depression, heart ailment, stroke, lung disease, and others.

How can sleeping together with your partner be detrimental to your health? According to Dr. Stanley’s observations, when the sleep cycle is broken up, or simply when sleep is interrupted, chances are you do not get enough sleep that will cause restlessness and irritation the following day. What causes interruption then? It is when your partner moves or snores then sleep is broken up.

I beg to disagree.

I believe that it is more what the state of the mind is that contributes to good sleep. When one is physically and mentally stable, getting a good night sleep is easy even with your husband or your wife snoring or moving a lot during sleep. There are exemptions though when one snores very loud as if pushing a big dresser, then that could definitely ruin your good night sleep.

The tremendous amount of worries and uneasiness could also contribute. Peace of mind helps in getting a wonderful night sleep. In some cases, even with your husband or your partner not moving a lot, or not snoring, you will be awakened with a bad dream that concerns a particular problem that has been bugging you for days.

I could not imagine sleeping at night without Papsie by my side. I know it is a matter of getting used to the situation but truly, I could not imagine, especially when after special nights, you are tranquilized to a beautiful sleep because of the backbreaking performances. That I guarantee will give you a sound sleep.

Photohunt: Electric

The first thing that comes to mind when we talk about ELECTRIC is the electric guitar, and second are the electric lights. The picture above are not bath lights but those lights inside the Bahay ng Alumni in the University of the Philippines. I admired the effect it gave inside the hall where that day the university scholars were honored and acknowledged.

I am late again posting for Photohunt! It's my third week that I am late posting for this Saturday challenges. But I participated still because as the saying goes, better late than nevah!

Height is an Advantage

I was not favored with tallness like that of the beauty queens and the supermodels. When I was young, in my elementary grades, I remember, I used to envy my 'big' classmates, and used to wonder why I was small. I was not only small, I am skinny. And even if the hgh growth hormone was already in the market that time, I doubt if my parents would have the option of buying those supplements for me, and for my siblings. Provision for the basic needs were the family's priority.

Why is height an advantage? Personally, for me, it's a plus when one has height. People easily recognize a tall person from a crowd or from a group. Attention is directed at once to a statuesque individual. Especially when one is smart and good looking, height is an extra.

Aside from being a candidate for sports activities and challenges that require height, tall individuals can get things done with ease especially when reaching for or putting objects on higher places. I always think of this when I have to hang clothes, after washing, on the clothesline. Being short (5'2"), this is truly difficult. I am just so thankful that I have an improvised rod with a hook to hang the clothes on higher clotheslines. :-D

Car Insurance Quotes

I just learned that New York is one of the most populous place in the US. It is therefore a necessity for an immigrant to have a car with a New York car insurance. I hope you get what I mean - the relation of having a car in a populated place. Okay, if you don't, I think it is important to have one because you would not want to be missing opportunities or be late in an appointment in a fast-paced city as New York just because you missed the train. I may not be the authority to say this but my cousin had been visiting the place frequently.

It amazes me to know that a ny auto insurance quote could include things like reduction of rates if you have a baby that you transport in a vehicle or is expecting one soon, or reduced insurance premiums when you are married, especially when both have good driving records. Truly interesting offers that are irresistible but may not be available in all of the insurance companies. It is imperative therefore that one has to make comparisons and study the details of each.

Which brings me to ponder about scrutinizing car insurance quotes here in the Philippines if I have to buy a new car. Hmm... when will that be?

Photohunt: Orange

This dark orange colored spaghetti is one of Daryl's fave that is why yesterday, September 4, his birthday, I cooked it for him.

Daryl, as I wrote in my previous post, is already 17 years old. How time flies! It was like only yesterday when he was just a lad who graduated from high school. Now he is in his second year in college.

We had also had these food on the table to devour he he:

This is one of Daryl's guilty pleasure - eating. He would not succumb to other vices like smoking (even if they are Davidoff cigars) and drinking. He could be happy without those.

I have a good son to be proud of? Ah, yes, I have. That is why I am grateful, truly grateful for him.

It's a late Photohunt entry again. You can still join on a Sunday if you like. They will understand. :-D

A Sony Vaio for Daryl

Tomorrow is Daryl's birthday. If I have enough, I could have bought a Sony Vaio for Daryl. Knowing my son, and how considerate he is, he will not agree to the idea. But still, I want to give it to him.

I hate to see him wait for an opportunity to use the only laptop in the house. Well, at least he has still a desktop computer to use whenever his sister is using the laptop.

I write this letter to him:

Dear son,

I know you know that I love you very much. It saddens me to think that your first wish in your wish list was not granted. I hope you understand that it is beyond my control, or beyond Papsie and I’s control. Well, knowing you, understanding is not a hard thing to do. You are born with it.

I am happy that you are my son, that God gave me a son like you. There are many good words that I can use to describe you but I know that hearing me say that ‘You are a good son” is enough to convey that you really are. Thank you, my son, for being a good son. You are a blessing. We are blessed to have you. Now I understand why your cousins love and like you better.

Still, I hope and pray that your first wish will be granted someday. We just have to wait I guess.

Love you much,

Mama

A Metamorphosis of Being

As one grows older, things seem to get slower than slow. It must be the physical components of the body deteriorating. The dead cells actually are not replaced by new cells when the body gets older. The reason for flabby arms and thighs they say.

Even with effort, like taking a weight loss pill to govern the growth of fat cells, the body sometimes do not respond. I know someone who, after taking these 'wonder' pills for years, remained a figure with a huge built-in belt bag. There is this other, on the other hand, who looks like a walking set of bones after taking the 'wonder' pill for months then years.

It is again being slow or the slowness that kills one's desire to exercise. Exercise is the only effective but difficult way to cut fat and maybe loose weight and be transformed into a body of mostly lean meat. Or maybe it is the condition where a poor soul is overwhelmed with life's crisis, difficult and tight situations, disappointments, or troubles that destroys inspiration and be able to regain or maintain the adrenalin.

Sometimes, some kinds of pain don't heal easily. And one of them is to accept that old age is inevitable. The only cure is to have that metamorphosis of being by changing the way we have to look at life when growing old cannot be avoided. Acceptance is a positive way to start the leap to this phase and then comes the rest.
