A Police Ring Can Be Personalized

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="240"]Christmas in the post-War United States Christmas in the post-War United States (Photo credit: Wikipedia)[/caption]

I didn't know that! It truly is possible to have police rings personalized.

Now, you would ask why the sudden interest? Nothing special actually. I just thought that during Christmas and with friends or family that are in the service perhaps a ring is an interesting gift. To have it done according to an individual policeman's preferences - his own emblems, engraving, and stone color - will make it truly special. The gift giver can also choose what metal to be used (which is of course according to what he thinks the receiver would like) and they vary from steel, silver, and gold.

Make Your Own Snowy Christmas Atmosphere

[caption id="attachment_4691" align="aligncenter" width="500"]snowy-christmas-village-830446Photo courtesy of Free Christmas Wallpapers

It can be possible with a bubble machine.   With it, you can produce bubble, fog and snow effects.  Well, I know, you got to have enough space to highlight such an atmosphere.  If you have that enough space, then you are ready to create one.  Some other machines even have lighting effects.

Our own space will not be enough so I just have to scout on households that thought of having such an atmosphere.  It must be fun especially in a tropical country like the Philippines.

On second thought, I think I will just have to visit EK or Star City and check if they already have this.

The Christmas Party that Brought Out the Talents

The other day we had our Christmas party.   The different departments agreed to gather and celebrate and prepare for the contests.  Perhaps it's the long anticipation for such a gathering that brought out the talents.  It is such a revelation that made the party full of fun.   With time kaput, each group tried their hardest to make the evening delightful and entertaining.

Here are some pics.

Christmas parties are fun but beware the food

Christmas parties are fun especially when you expect that there would be lots of food to partake.  However, these are occasions that we need to check on the food pyramid chart first before embarking on pigging out.

We just had our Christmas party yesterday for the monthly employees.  We just had individually packed food from Kentucky Fried Chicken (consisting of two pieces fried chicken, mushroom chowder, macaroni salad, rice and brownies) which is just okay to fill hungry stomachs after all the exhaustion from prancing, rocking, swaying, twisting, treading, etc to the music.  The problem is they are not truly healthy food given the amount of fat, carbs, salt, and sugar that were absorbed from eating them all.

Why not, choc nut?

Do you remember Choc Nut?

chocnut

It is still in the market.  I love the peanut-y and milky taste but if I ask you this question - would you like to receive Choc Nut as Christmas gift?  Yes, this is a question intended only for Filipinos, if some outsiders would dare ask.

My answer would be no, especially if it is from exchange gift activities during Christmas season.  Simply because Choc Nut can be bought from nearby sari-sari stores and is almost always readily available.  I do not intend to demean the attempt but it is so effortless to be giving such a gift, except if it is included in your monito/a's wishlist.  Gift-giving must be done with love, with time, and with effort.  After all, we all wish everybody happiness and love during the season, not that we do wish them these only this season, but what is the essence if you would just buy something without that enthusiasm?   The questions will be thrown back to you who decided on giving Choc Nut - would you like to receive Choc Nut as a gift this season?  I know very well you would not.

What TV mounts must be

It is not easy deciding on what type of tv mounts to buy for one's television set.    Nowadays,  LED teevees can either be mounted on  the wall or with a stand.   TV mounts have many classifications according to  what the need is.    For example, if you want to have that optimum viewing level, you can choose profile mounts.  Or if you need to be able to adjust the screen up or down, left or right, in order to view your screen, you will have to choose tv mounts with mounting brackets.  Or if you want your tv unit to move or lift with a remote control or with electric mounting accessories, you will definitely choose motorized wall mounts.

There are actually more types to choose from.  Those mentioned are just examples and they are designed according to each buyer's needs.

Up there at the tower, there must be a bell. :D

This is not much for the week's theme of Photohunt. At least, I tried. LOL

It's been weeks (how many, I am not sure) I have not played.

Catalog Printing for the Business

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="240"]Day 127 | Prints, Prints, Prints Day 127 | Prints, Prints, Prints (Photo credit: ir0cko)[/caption]

In E-commerce, web businesses can make use of hierarchical catalogs for their specific products and services but printed ones are also helpful.  For direct advertising, a ready catalog can be distributed to customers and potential customers that get interested.

That is why it is imperative to look for cheap catalog printing that contains information on one's products or services.  Catalogs are sturdy and can last longer because of their thick covers.   However, printing services differ with the prices they offer.  It could be beneficial to be able to find, therefore, one that offers cheaper but longer-lasting and good print outputs.

A Sad Story

[caption id="attachment_4652" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Photo from Inquirer.net[/caption]

Somehow even before the start of Pacquiao and Marquez' fight, I felt this eerie feeling that Manny Pacquiao won't win.  I could not verbalize it in fear of being branded traitorous.  :D  I mentioned it, however, to my husband and kids.

I do not exactly know how to express that feeling until I heard R. Nathaniels saying about strength conditioning.  I am no boxing sports aficionado (only when Manny's playing I watch) but I have to agree with all that he said about preparation.  In one of Manny's loss before, which year I don't remember anymore, it was the issue - the preparation.  Manny became over confident that year as he had now.

Perhaps Papsie and the others are correct, too, in saying he became complacent because he must have left his defense thinking there is already little time left before the round ended.  He could have anticipated that every moment is Marquez' opportunity because he was the one with that big and enormous desire to win and defeat him.

It is devastating truly.  It is a sad story especially to the avid fans.  It is a convincing fight though and that is what makes it tougher to take.

We remain Filipinos.  We have to be.  A Pacquiao loss must not debase our race.  We remain proud of what we are because it is not Manny Pacquiao only that constitutes it but our definitive character as Filipinos, even in the face of defeat.

Are you a fan of Giorgio Perfume?

Honestly, when I was conceiving with my first baby, I hate a lot of smells.  One of them is the Giorgio perfume.  When an office mate entered our room one time, I tried my best not to breathe and hastily went out of the room when that person chose to stay.

I wonder if things had changed with the way Giorgio scents smell, and if this wings perfume for women by Giorgio would capture my taste for perfumes.  It is interesting though that it contains amber, musk and woods mixed with some floral scents.  Floral scents can be overpowering though but I am keeping my hopes high for this one.

You can choose to give me this scent on the eve of December 24.  :D :D  I am not choosy, you know.  LOL

In Pursuit of a Dream

As I had written in a post at MyLot, I am growing tired of what I do.  Work had become a routine.  It does not challenge me anymore, and it does not give a promise of growth anymore, financially, mentally, and morally.  It seemed like everything is futile; it seemed like everything is in freeze or hanging mode.   I admire  some people whoregard work as fun albeit it could not be like that always but having to work with more fun in a sense not really akin to not doing anything at all but doing it with much gusto and love and self-respect is really, really something.

Some people can be just content of what they do or be satisfied working only within their comfort zone.  I mean, some people can be 'fat dumb and happy' with the conventional pace.    I was at some point in my life,  that - trying to appease my self with thoughts of acceptance.

But the desire is growing and Princess Merida asked this question: "If you had a chance to change your fate, would you? "

Yes.

I am crossing my fingers as I hope.

Beautiful Sounds

Each time I see a movie by Pixar, I am always in awe of the sound quality.  It makes me wonder about the sound technology that is applied.  It also makes me wonder if the technology included rich sounds like those from ableton suite 8 which is a software package that complements music production tools and features.

I bet that those creative minds from production use these complicated sound tool sets with expertise.  I will never ever be able to understand them, I know, but to listen to a richly good, useful high-end, and real sounds makes me want to learn a little of the how.

Brave, by Pixar

The other night we watched Brave.  It is this year's computer-animated fantasy adventure, by Pixar.

Once again, Pixar created something special.  Contrary to reviews that the movie failed to deliver because it somehow mislead the viewers by its title, I find that it has a unique approach to the concept of bravery.

Perhaps I find the movie interesting because it is about that mother and daughter relationship that is as always, complex, but in-between the complexities love always prevails.  I love the part where the daughter realized her fault.  In all mother and daughter relationships, there will always be this part though some daughters will be that difficult to admit their faults and deny love.  In the movie though, Merida realized the weight of her impulsive actions that resulted from her selfish desires.

Waterfall Fountains

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="300"]One of the Rimsky ('Roman') fountains in Peterhof One of the Rimsky ('Roman') fountains in Peterhof (Photo credit: Wikipedia)[/caption]

I am not sure about waterfall fountains but I am sure they will suit a larger house that need decorative ornaments inside or outside.  Some waterfall fountains are also considered soothing walls.  I have to agree with that because flowing water gives me that soothing feeling, or that calm and compose feeling.

Alas, the house is not built as comely as those houses in magazine covers.  Aside from being old, the present design of the house now will just be consumed by the beauty of these waterfall fountains.  Also, there is no space indoor or outdoor to include these waterfall fountains.

But if I have a huge house, the waterfall fountains will definitely be included or considered but I would go with the unique ones.  Obtuse outdoor fountain with a ball or an alpine rainforest driftwood fountain are types that are one of a kind.

Thursday Two Questions: Hair Care

It's only now that I have time to update the blog and I wanted to take the opportunity to participate in this Thursday meme which is currently running at Sagacity's Choices Shampoos Conditioners and Body Lotions. Here are the two questions:

1.  Do you use, alternate more than one brand of shampoo, conditioner, or body wash?

2.  Do you have a favorite brand of shampoo, conditioner, or body wash?

My answers:

1.  I do not have the habit of alternating or using more than one brand of shampoo.  I always go for the effect of the shampoo to my hair and scalp.  There are shampoos that are effective only for a time so if I find a brand that suits the hair and scalp, I tend to stick to it.

2.  At present, my favorite shampoo and conditioner is Pantene.  Once a week, I use Pantene Total Damage Care, as maintenance.

On One of the Deadly Sins: Envy

It was only the other week that I watched Seven. It's a beautiful movie and featured the seven deadly sins in this order

  • Gluttony

  • Greed

  • Pride

  • Sloth

  • Lust

  • Envy

  • Wrath

It was such a sad movie for me even if it appears scary for others.  The serial killer preached in each kill where each one of the seven deadly sins is portrayed in every death.  So horrifying was the execution for the sin 'lust', where the prostitute was brutally murdered in a way I could never ever imagine as possible to happen.

All these sins, the killer admitted that he is 'envy' killing Brad Pitt's wife portrayed by Gwyneth Paltrow because he realized he was envious of Brad Pitt's life who is Detective David Mills in the movie.  Kevin Spacey played the serial killer. Praises to him for that brilliant portrayal!  :)

The movie made me think about the envy sin.  It could really be a dangerous tool by anyone.  It could damage, it could separate, it could alienate, it could create animosity, and worst of all, it could kill.  To be the embodiment of this evil sin is not something that could give anyone benefit.  However, most people, blinded by envy, does not even realize that they are becoming or have become the total embodiment of envy.

Thursday Two Questions: Spooky Movies

When I was in college, I love to watch horror movies with my friends, and later with my ex-bf-turned-hubby.  Horror movies before had this appeal we cannot resist perhaps being young, we wanted to try new and different things.  As I grow older mature, the fondness to these kinds of movies died.  I cannot last watching, or even if I watch, I would turn my head or pretend to do something to avoid those scenes that could make me jump, or give me goosebumps.

Last night though we watched Insidious and I say it's a good horror movie, more frightening than Sixth Sense.

[caption id="attachment_4597" align="aligncenter" width="510"] Poster from IMP Awards[/caption]

Here are my two questions:

1.  Are you fond of watching horror movies? If yes, or no, why?

2.  What is the best current horror movie for you?

Eyeing for Sweatshirts as Gifts

Christmas is fast approaching and I am considering sweatshirts for loved ones as gifts.  The loved ones are many and even if they get to read this post, they do not know who among them will receive one.  :D  There will be a group that will probably be excited and another that will pray that they will not receive the sweatshirt, especially that I am looking for cheap sweatshirts.

I wonder if there are pure cotton custom made sweatshirts.  There must be but if I plan to buy cheaper ones, of course, they will be made of cotton poly blends.  They are claimed to be softer and does not wrinkle.

There are online stores now that offers custom made sweatshirts where one is allowed to pick the style, color and design one wants.   I bet the naysayers will change their minds now.  :D

Thursday Two Questions: Halloween

The net was slow so I only get to upload this now. :D :D :D

Halloween is a celebration that is adapted by the Philippines perhaps several years back (I am not really sure).   Every time I am asked about how I celebrate it, I cannot give an answer as I have not really celebrated it except by paying a visit to the graves/tombs before or after  November 1.  November 1 is a holiday for Filipinos and a time to visit their loved ones' graves.

I took time learning about Halloween.   Wikipedia has this to say:
Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of its original title "All Hallow's Evening"), also known as All Hallows' Eve, is a yearly holiday observed around the world on October 31, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows. Most scholars believe that All Hallows' Eve was originally influenced by western European harvest festivals and festivals of the dead with pagan roots, particularly the Celtic Samhain others maintain that it originated independently of Samhain.

Typical festive Halloween activities include trick-or-treating (also known as "guising"), attending costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.

[caption id="attachment_4579" align="aligncenter" width="480"] A visit to the grave[/caption]

Here are my answers to a meme at Self Sagacity with two (2) questions:
1. What are your favorite things about Halloween?

Well, if the celebration here in the Philippines about the dead is considered as a Halloween thing then it is seeing relatives again.  This holiday is like a reunion, too, meeting once again relatives that we have not seen for a long time.  There are also food to share, stories to tell, news to bite or not, et al.

2. What was your first experience at a Halloween Party like? (it could be your kids' or your relative's)

Honestly, I cannot remembering attending one. :D

Inspired by a photographic project called A Day in the Life.  Here is a post I have for this project (although this project is not running recently and I'm crossing my fingers that there will be a next run of the project), taking photo/s each hour of the day.  Now, you'll be able to tell the story about my typical work day.

9:30 AM - checking emails & zerox copies

10:30 AM - checking hubs

I know some are even collectors of these anime figures. Should I ask why? :D

Thursday Two Questions

As I was browsing the net about memes, I chanced upon this blog - Self Sagacity - and found this meme named Thursday Two Questions.  The blog owner's questions are:

1) Do you recall having memories of a place, or experience of something that you  actually feel the same?

My answer:

Lots of places and I have to say events that I could recall and actually feel the same. It also gives you that feeling of deja vu.  Anyway, there is this one place that makes me feel the same when I visited it after decades.  It was the university where my children had finished their college.

The University of Philippines made me feel small literally as it is such a very big university.  I first visited it when I applied for the entrance examination.  I felt like a tiny dot on the vastness of a piece of paper.  The same feeling was felt when I have to visit it again when we decided to jog every Sunday.  Good heavens, I wasn't able to go back to that routine again. :(   Anyway, back to that feeling again.  It is queer that I still find the university very large making me feel small.

[caption id="attachment_4535" align="aligncenter" width="480"] UP Oval[/caption]

2) Is there any cause and effect for you if you were to stay up late?

My answer:

There is always a cause for me to stay up late.  As a working mom, 24 hours in a day are not enough.  Coming from work, I cannot just perform at once to do the house chores so I have to take a rest and sometimes it drowns the drive to do the things that need to be done when something comes up in between like when one of the children would invite us to dine out, or when hubby wants to watch a movie with me. :D

It energizes me to stay up late. I know, it sounds weird.  I just need to go to bed late and feel that the day is over and things (though not everything) are completed.
