My eyes always have that itchy feeling. Inspecting it with a mirror, I see one or two lashes which had fallen out and is/are pricking my eyeball/s causing the itch.
From Paula's Choice, there are reasons why lashes fall out:
- lashes shed and grow
- wiping off of make-up
- rubbing of the eyes
- overuse of mascara
- allergy to mascara
- consistent tugging using eye curlers
- noncosmetic allergies from allergens
- eye trauma
- eyelid infection
- eyelid cancer
- hypothyroidism
- pituitary insufficiency
- a mite called D. folliculorum
Madarosis, as the falling out of lashes is called, sometimes causes panic to me. I don't know if there should be a limit to the number of lashes falling out in a day to say that it is still normal, and not chronic. What would be the equivalent if falling hair reaching up to a hundred a day is still normal?
Going over the list again, I dread thinking about numbers 8 to 13 reasons, especially number 10. Imagine how a single eyelash falling out and becoming frequent or persistent as caused by an eyelid cancer!
This is the first time I've heard of this condition. I've rarely seen an eyelash fall and I didn't realize that they do shed and grow. Now that I think about it, it's still hair and of course would grow back. :) Yours is probably nothing serious.
ReplyDeleteSame here, falling hair is common but never heard of falling eyelashes.
ReplyDeleteI have experienced that once, and yeah, it's itchy. What's more irritating? It's hard to take the eyelash off my eyeball!
ReplyDeleteprobably, irene...
ReplyDeletequite an info, huh, ann?
yes, it is, malaya. had to blink your eyes many times to make the lash land on the lid so you could get it out easily.
no need to worry Ate Bing, false eyelashes and extensions are "in" these days :)
ReplyDeleteNever heard of this condition before...hmmmm!
ReplyDeleteThanks for droppin by my blog by the way. I appreciate it a lot.
God pless po!
I've experienced this when I accidentally rub my eyes. But I'm not aware that it is a condition. Yes, 8 & 13 is scary. Don't worry, it will grow. :)
ReplyDeleteShould I start to worry cause there was a time I was able to pull off 5 eyelashes? Of course, I wished 5 times. Hehe. No kidding.
ReplyDeletehi, jane! wouldnt be a problem if the reason is simple..
ReplyDeletehi, jef. welcome to my blog.
good thing they grow back, ipanema. :-)
5 eyelashes for 5 wishes. tell me, has any of the wishes came true? :-)
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of that before. I hope it doesn't happen to me. As it is, my eyelashes are so short and few already that you'd think I don't have any eyelashes. Anyway, I do hope that it's just a temporary condition and that it's not a symptom of anything in your list nos 8-13. Do see a doctor... just to be sure.
ReplyDeletethey shed and grow, toe. i think there is nothing to worry about. thanks for the concern anyway. :-)
ReplyDeletei always rub my eyes after i removed my contacts and i could see some lashes... it's eerie specially #10.
ReplyDeletei also have contact lenses, and yes, after removing it, i sometimes find fallen lashes! isa din kayang factor ang contact lenses?
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that my eyeashes have been falling out for years and have been aware of the causes - allergies, contacts, poor health, body trama from surgeries and the use of pain pills, and malnutrition. Goodness - sound a mess! The truth is that I take good care of myself so I have noticed when things seem abnorm. With that said, allergies are my constant struggle. Can anone recommend a mascara for allergy eyes?
