When a Person Refuses to Listen

Always there will be people who do not know how to listen. And what makes it worse; they are those older than you or those with authority over you. A simple thing becomes a problem. And the more you talk, the more they become bigger and complicated when all you want is to solve the predicament.

Then you wonder how the hell they ended up with the job responsibilities and position they presently have if they do not know how to deal with a simple problem. The hollowness of their brains knocks you down, off, out and over.

You decide to tone down your voice because they will not understand it. They will read it as INSUBORDINATION when all you want was plain resolution. Confrontations become misleading to them. They will look at you like one with a CONCEITED plaster on the forehead. You wanted to shout at them, “WAKE UP! Your brain is not functioning.” But you choose not to, because it will spoil your day. They will not understand anyway. Hello, it will be like an endless cycle without having to resolve what needs to be resolved.

Are you listening? Thank you.

  1. Ah, office pests. Sometimes all we can do is follow blindly and I like it when his/her idea falls flat on the person's face. hahaha...I am so mean. Ayaw makinig eh. Sometimes even suggestions, ayaw pa rin. :)

  3. im listening ate.. :) thank you po sa greeting.. and pwede na po ako sa beer..:)

hirap talaga kapag may conflict sa work, lalo na para sa akin.. ako kasi ung pinakabata sa workplace namin, kaya minsan may tendency na di nila ako seryosohin.. pero i prove to them that i not just a kid na kaya lang nila.. :) hehehe..

if i have suggestions i try my best to speak out, if they decline it bahala sila.. in the end they realize that i might be correct and hopefully they accept it.. hehehe..:)

  5. you are very welcome, karmi! pwede ka na sa beer??

actually, it's more like a cold war, bombarding me every now and then with critical words.. and it's not as simple as employee-to-employee rift. it's boss and subordinate differences clashing..

the teenage world is different from this world of adults at work. mon.. a world of difference..

  6. dealing with hard-liners can be frustrating, to say the least. their motto is "it's my way or the highway".
in some cultures, such as ours, where "seniority" plays in family or business decisions the "juniors'" input can sometimes be construed as disrespectful, cocky, rebelliuous, etc.....

  7. exactly, dp. sometimes their illogical reasons get into my nerves.

it is really hard to understand why a word could mean the whole different thing to them...

  10. Looks like the person you are referring to has a very vague idea of what communication means. There are ignorant nitwits who think that office business is all about bosses telling subordinates what to do - period.

  11. i couldnt agree more, bw! seems like at times i wanted to knock on their heads, and say, "hello, are you awake?", and to listen to the sound of their nutcase heads just to see if they have something in it.

  12. ako Bing, sometimes i become makulit to the higher ups in our organization. It is not really makulit in the sense that you just keep on saying things you want to say but more on being persistent if you think that what you have in mind makes sense. I don't feel bad though if the idea is not accepted the first (even the second time or third)time i say it... they have other thoughts and concerns and sometimes some of their minds are just "close" yet, still i float an idea to let it get on their consciousness -- it is possible that they don't accept your idea because they are NOT aware of it-- that it has never come into their thoughts before, so you float it for them to think about it... ifthey don't accept it, at least you did your part... sometimes if the opportunity present itself again then you say it again (but you always say it possitively,ha) and sometimes it gets approved... sometimes too you find out that they implement your idea with a little touch of their own -- it doesn't matter if they say it came from them (afterall they put some input too) what's important is that what you think is right gets implemented.

  13. that's a different situation, i think, beth. perhaps that is more like lobbying. that situation i was in was more of an argument. it really frustrated me how he could insist on something without studying the situation first.

it is not a problem, actually, for me, if my idea will not be accepted. as you've said, at least i tried. and besides, they will always be my superior, and going against them willfully will just mean insubordination.

that sounds great that the higher ups in your work area can be persuaded if the right moment comes. you just have to wait. :-)
