Social Networks

What do Friendster, Hi5, Tagged, Facebox, Jhoos, Ringo, LoveHappens, and the like have in common? They are social (and even dating) networks designed to one’s social and advertising or marketing needs. It got me hooked before to some of these networks because of the excitement to meet old and new friends, to read messages, testimonials and bulletins. Improvements to better their services are in progress. The skins of a profile, for example, can be revised or improved using some of the featured improvements. Quite an interesting feature because it gives the impression that you can have your personal touch to your profile or to the design or layout of your page. To add, almost all access to the different services are just a click away - trouble-free indulgence to the networks’ items.

But I have yet to delete some accounts. The others were already forgotten. In other words, my username and password to some of these networks were vanished from memory. And as I have said, the remaining ones will be deleted in the future (perhaps I can retain one). And future can mean two hours from here and now.

One would like to ask why. Simple! I don’t have time anymore to enjoy the luxury of visiting them, of responding to the messages and the bulletins, to post pictures, to add testimonials, or to revise the design and layout. And probably nobody cares anymore if there is a page for yours truly because yours truly does not reply and visit other pages anymore. I just cannot have time for these OTHER activities. The blogging deities alone cannot be satiated with my infrequent socializing. Why would I retain these pages which I have not visited for months? Admittedly, like blogging, having these pages in these social networks let me discover exciting new things and people. But I just don’t have the time. So, ‘delete this account’ they will go.

Can one ever forget testimonials like

she's actually not the tita type...she is more of a friend..crazy and immature sometimes...but very responsible...ahh...one of the VERY FEW persons in *** na may sense kausap hehe...

Or funny messages like

I saw your pic with your lovely legs, and had to write. Thank you for sharing your pics.

Or photo messages like

Pretty.

Or even nasty messages like

Very Nice Body Shape, Yummmmmmmmm

They will never be forgotten – the sweet, the friendly, the nasty (or the terrifying) – they were the exciting part of the experience. It was really nice reading other people's pages but I have grown out of these activities. I feel it is nonsense that I continue. Let the young, the unattached, the vibrant, the daring, the promising, or the energetic, enjoy! :-D

  2. Of the seven "social networks" that you mentioned, I only know one and that's Friendster. I used to maintain a Friendster account because my officemates were into it. After a while, I found it, um, a bit pang-teenager so I erased the said account. :D

  3. Ako naman I only maintain an account in Friendster and didn't open accounts with others. Kasi I'm pretty sure I couldn't maintain it hehe

  4. i think i also have a myspace account, ipanema, because i wanted to visit an American friend's site. after a few visits, i forgot the username and password ha ha i cant comment in his blog anymore. :-D and had forgotten each other also he he

these networks expose people to some people na di kapareho ang wavelength. what is irksome, some comments really are nasty that you wanted to get back and give them a blow. but why would i do that i said to myself.

the first i had also was friendster. ho-hum, just thinking of the account, inaantok na 'ko, nico. musta na? you had a blast nung holidays huh..

deleted one account already. dunno, sasha, kung mamaintain ko pa ang friendster. having my second thoughts kung buburahin ko. :-) thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  8. friendster actually was a tool for me to re connect withlong lost friends. Thru it, I was able to trace back some classmates from gradeschool and we got to have a mini reunion.

  9. I have friendster account but like you i have forgotten my username and password, so it is considered as dead as far as I'm concerned.

Actually, I opened the account so I can comment on my children's friendsters.

Dahil, di na nila ginagamit, di na rin ako pumupunta doon kasi nagsilipat sila sa Multiply. so open din ako ng multiply. ha ha ha.

Ang kulet ng ama nila ano?

  10. ha ha talaga, single? friendster at hi5 lang ang napagtiyagaan ko. but i deleted the hi5 account already.

wow, duke, that was my intention, too - to reconnect with some college friends. but probably none of them has friendster he he

oh, i forgot about multiply, rolly. i also have an account there he he because of datu panot and noypetes. they have interesting sites and i cannot comment kung di ako mag reregister. multiply's a good site, katagal lang magload.

di siguro makulet ang tawag dun, naki-ki -'in' lang ha ha

  11. I got a Friendster account to stay connected with college friends. But unlike before where I spend most of my time making testimonials, editing profile...now I just update the pics so that my friends will see me from being fat to fatter hahaha

I also got a Myspace account for friends living in the states. They have no idea was Friendster is.

  14. good for you, beatburn?

would love to connect with classmates of long time ago thru friendster, verns. good that you still have contact with them. :-)

so typical of the youth, mon. nawa'y dumami pa sila.

it's exciting to read messages from long lost friends, di ba, major tom? i agree it's easier to read messages thru friendster.

  15. totoo ka bing. ako ganyan sa sobrang daming account, nakalimutan mga password. nakwento ko ata sa isang blog yung password ng email ko yun ang na punch ko sa ATM! hahahaha...i went blank noh, i have to go back to the car para mag-isip. sabi nga mga anak ko what happened daw. na-relate ko, tawa ng tawa.

hit sa mga Filipino ang Friendster. Para sa akin, malinis sya kesa sa MySpace kahit sabihin pa nilang the largest. Marami namang kabulastugan dun.

  16. ha ha grabe yun, a. isa sa mga episodes ng pagiging makalimutin. as to friendster, meron din naman mga weirdong pinoy. once, i stumbled upon a page where the primary photo was a pic of a boy and a girl (teenagers, it seemed), naked, the boy had a video cam holding one of the boobies of the girl. the girl seemed proud staring at the camera. i so wanted to report it but leave it out na lang.

  17. I registered in friendster late last year, two years after I got an invitation from a classmate. I saw that all my sis, most cousins, uncles, nephews, classmates, badminton friends, ex-officemates, etc... are found on friendster. I visited the account only when I'm in an internet cafe. The site is banned in the company network. Only few visits my site. I visits theirs only once.

I ignore invitations from other new networks.

  18. dapat talaga i ignored na lang, lazarus. what prompted me is the thought na nakakahiya kung di i-accept ang invite. :-(
