The Joys of Texting

Texting is one of those pleasures in life that I can't do without. It is a necessity alright but the exchange of messages (especially those funny, or should I say hilarious, ones) also makes my day.

With texting, I discover friends, I get to know acquaintances and friends better, I learn, and I grow. But it is the sad stories that kills the joy. What the heck, life must go on.

There were stories indeed. Friends who become lovers. Enemies who become friends. Friends who become better and greater friends. Broken marriages that were healed. Lovers that were given a second chance. Good deals that were closed. Ambitions that were realized. Etc, etc. The opposite is what kills the joy.

No matter what others think about it, I enjoy the text messages I receive. I cherish each heartwarming message though I get to erase some if the inbox gets loaded. They matter though they were erased. The thought is here in my mind, and in my heart.

  1. I love texting too and I can never live a day without texting. I guess we are all into the texting vibe now!

And yes, I do enjoy the text messages that I receive too; more than anything as they make me happy.

  2. The text messages that I have come to fear are the ones from my clients, asking me to call ASAP. More often than not, it's bad news...

  4. text messages that i fear, single. hmmm.. havent encountered many but those few were not from the bosses, or from the clients, as i dont have clients ha ha

i don't go for the latest cel phone models actually. it doesnt serve me the purpose, beatburn. text messaging or texting should not be more than that.

yes, texting is a verb. but in this case (in the title), it is a verbial noun, or what they call gerund. well, there is really no word as texting which simply means text messaging. but since it's been used most of the time, or had been adapted as a word, i chose to use it because i know everybody will get what i mean, or know what i mean.

  5. Just a piece of information. Did you know that e-loads displaces the Coke for the most purchased items of Pinoys. This is according to my researcher friend.

This could be true becuase most people especially the young ones can go without lunch, dinner or other things but not without load.

  9. I think the Oxford English Dictionary
    and Cambridge Advance Learner's Dictionary
have texting listed as a verb. One of the contributions of cellphone technology/jargon.

  11. I text more than I call and friends say that I am typically Filipino. In the US, our kababayans prefer to call (mas mura yata to call and they're so busy to text).

When I first started using cellphones, my students would text me night and day and they'd send me all sorts of inspirational messages. Ang galing! Would you believe I'd write their messages down in a small notebook? I completed two small notebooks and I still have these. Once in a while, I'd go thru the pages and they always bring me happy thoughts.

But now, wala na ako masyadong time to text and medyo mahal na rin. Besides, 90% of my students are now professionals - once in a while they text pa rin but mas masaya when they were still students. :)

  12. hi, bugsy. i do that, too, but i don't literally write them down - i 'type' them again and save it on one of my pc folders.

i also don't have that much time to text. but receiving nice quotes and hilarious stuffs thru text messages is really fun!
