Are You Serious, BF?

Photo courtesy of Sunguide Dessiminator. It also has info on responsible cellular phone use and traffic safety.

Papsie told me about the news that tells about the penalty on using the cel phone while driving. Lawbreakers will be penalized P200,000. Is BF really serious? What's your take on this?

I agree with their intention to prevent road accidents and other incidents relating to such carelessness and thoughtlessness. But I am doubtful where the money will go. What will they do after amassing the P200,000 from the expected number of violators? Where will this huge amount of money go? I am quite doubtful that this will create projects that the motorists will benefit.

Yes, BF was notable how he had ran his turf. But every politician here in the Philippine has his own streak of evil. Cynical me but hey, i am not alone with this thought. What with the many incidents of malversation of funds and the saying that says 'If you cannot be trusted with a 5 centavo how much more with a peso?'. Wow, I maybe suffering from paranoia. :-D It happens when you had been a citizen since birth in a country such as The Philippines. Kidding aside, lest I become so hypercritical, I suggest that BF (or the MMDA, as he speaks for the organization ) should plainly state the objective of the proposal (I am not aware of the progress or if the law is in effect already) or what the masses will gain from the pretense undertaking.

  1. I rarely use my cp. I did not even loaded my cp from Jabuary-April this year.

  2. Is using a cell phone with a headset included? If yes, that's just too much.

  4. hi, mon. that's sad. me, i dont have enough time to blog, but i open my cp every now and then.

  5. I have to say although the whole law seems ridiculously "overpriced"... it does scare you to "call and drive".

If Philippine Government isn't as corrupt, people may take it seriously... but being someone who has been, like you, a citizen since birth, this whole law is ridiculous. If cops can bribe and coerce motorists for speeding or running a red light, Imagine what they can be capable of doing with P200,000 blinking in front of them.

  6. hi, alternati. the thought of the law having to pass scares me more than the thought of motorists using the cel phone while driving. the citizenry can be responsible if the lawmakers are just as responsible. :-)

  7. ngek! naisip ko lang kung saan naman ako kukuha ng P200,000 pag ako nahuli...but I just remember na wala naman pala akong sasakyan so wala akong problem na ganyan hehehe...

seriously the amount is ridiculous! I do agree with you...where will it go? I guess pag yan ma implement mas tataas ang hihingin ng mga kurakot na MMDA officers (some I mean). I mean some of them nakakahingi ng 100-300 kung nakahuli ng coding..how much more kung gumagamit ka ng cellphone at alam nila na 200k ang penalty nun? baka hingin na nila ang cellphone mo....

  8. Well, we can use cellphones while driving; with a Bluetooth headset but of course the driver still has to pay attention on the roads!

    (:

  9. The law has been in effect for a couple of years already, but Pinoys being Pinoys, you still see them driving while texting or talking on their cellphones. And I personally know a LOT of them, mind you. Alternati is right, people don't take our laws seriously and that is what probably spurred BF to impose a higher penalty.

If one can afford to have a car, then he/she can surely afford to buy a bluetooth headset.

  10. hi, verns! ang higit na nakapag-alala ay ang maabuso ang ganitong mga batas.

hi kyels. i still don't know the provisions of the law.

hey, single. i have learned of that, too, but wasnt able to alter the post because in the first place i wrote this without the knowledge that there is already an existing law. however, my concern was of the penalty. it is way too much. the problem is how was the law implemented. bakit hindi nahuhulli ang mga taong gumagawa nito? or may nahuhuli o hinuhuli ba? or those that should implement takes it for granted kasi wala naman silang mapapalang pera? it was not even in the news. i believe na nasa nagpapa-implement lang. :-)

  11. Obey the law and you won't have to worry about paying the big fine. Statistics from all over the world have shown that CP use while driving and texting as well is now one of the top causes of serious accidents on roads and highways.

  12. dapat lang namang sundin ang batas, di ba, noypetes. but i just hope this would not be abused or be used by those salbaheng law enforcers in whatever way they can. ;-)
