A Blank in My Memory

I have made several attempts to write something for this evening’s post. I tried writing something with a title Being Green and was reminded of MyePinoy because of his dedication to the preservation of Mother Nature and everything related to her. But the effort was futile and I couldn’t write anything about it.

It’s the movie The Lake House which is being aired at HBO while I am writing this. It’s my second time actually but I couldn’t keep myself from viewing it still with interest and fascination.

I tried writing about our visit to best friend Mila’s house at San Mateo. There’s lots to write about but I cannot encourage myself to write about it, either. It’s like there is a huge blank in my memory that would not supply or provide the right words, intro, drama, excitement, et al for a post.

It’s the movie The Lake House, which starred Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullocks (two of my favorites), which keeps on distracting me. I even downloaded the soundtrack It’s Too Late by Carole King from Sonific. Everything about this movie is so fascinating, I think.

Then I said to myself, “Why don’t you just bloghop?” but failed to convince myself. I cannot even have the urge to do so. I am afraid I cannot even leave a sensible comment or a crisp hi or hello.

It’s this movie. And the climax is fast approaching. I still can feel my heart beat fast though I know already what will happen next.

There – I wrote a nonsensical post out of a blank in my memory. Gotta do what I have to do next.

Healthy is Not Delicious

The other day, two radio hosts were talking about the need to be conscious of what to eat. With all the news about deadly or chronic ailments, or about the different illnesses that we get by not eating right, it is high time, they say, to be really watching what food to eat and how much.

One of the hosts complained that healthy (food) is not delicious and she began telling her ordeal about a sandwich she’d eaten that tasted like cardboard and another chicken sandwich with lettuce that appeared more like lettuce sandwich with chicken because the chicken meat is very small. They continued until they mentioned that Oprah was heard saying that we can eat all the food we want to eat but with only small amounts. Sounds good to the ear. :-) But how much is a small amount?

Actually, it is a dilemma for me to be following all this dieting and measuring the contents or the ingredients of the food I eat. I dislike eating food without the taste, that is, the ‘right’ taste that the food must have. Although ‘right’ taste vary from one person to another, diet suggestions on measurements do affect the taste that is required of a particular dish. Take for example, adobo, which one main ingredient is soy sauce. Regulating the amount of soy sauce to the requirements would lessen the salty taste minimizing the quality of the viand. It will then transform the viand into something not of the adobo quality.

It is really a challenge (or a struggle) to be controlling what we have to put in our mouths. I am sure many would agree. It is at this point that what we have to really (as in really) instill in our minds is that the accumulated amounts of these unhealthy foods (with their ingredients, and the condiments, too) will one day put us in a situation where we could have wished that we can turn back the time and tune up our food habits.

Notions of the Young

On one occasion,

Kay: Do you think Lozada is a hero?

Me: No. Do you think he is?

Kay: No. Though I must admit that we should not take for granted what he did for the country.

On another occasion,

Me: Do you think it's enough reason to say that a person is bad or of low morals if he or she did not have a successful marriage?

Kay: Of course not.

Daryl: That's being judgmental. There are people who stay in a marriage because they do not want to ruin the family though they suffer.

Kay: People sometimes have limited reasoning.

On yet another occasion,

Kay: Natabunan na ang issue kay Lozada (Lozada's issue has been buried.)

Me: Oo nga, e (Yes, it's true.) Natabunan na ng issue sa kakulangan ng bigas (Covered by the rice shortage issue).

Again, another occasion,

Kay: Why are people judged as bad if they are agnostic?

Me: (Silent, busy listening to other issues discussed in the dining table. Contemplated on the question a little later but did not respond.)

Last night,

Daryl: You have to give me P300.

Me: What for?

Daryl: For my graduation pics. That old woman photographer was harassing the students. No student should reject a copy. Though you don't like a shot, you still have to pay for it. Isn't this an old story in our alma mater, ate?

Kay: Stupid folks. You had graduated already and you are still forced to pay for all the pics.

Daryl: It's the system. She has connections in the school. I was told she's a relative of one of the officials in the school.

Kay: Dapat yan inirereklamo na (There must be someone who must complain.)

Me: Nobody complains?

Daryl: Naku, no one. Perhaps because of that idea na malakas siya.

Why is it time to replace my car?

It’s a second hand car, you know. And as time goes by, the bugs appear and are becoming often than expected.

Why do I seldom look at the content label?

For me, it’s more a waste of time. When I go to the grocery store, I wanted it done very fast because the thoughts of other chores in the house lingers. Plus the fact that it makes me tired getting around inside the grocery stores for a long time.

Why do I prefer bottled water than tap water?

Hmmm… because they are processed. Though living in the Philippines doesn’t mean that ‘processed’ is guaranteed safe. :-D

Will You Choose Refurbished?

Pinoys love good buys, budget prices, good deals or low prices. That’s why a lot choose refurbished equipments or devices. Sad to say that deciding on these reconditioned items oftentimes results to disappointment. In a matter of weeks, and sometimes only a number of days, items sold on refurbished point of sale, will be returned to the marketing arm that sold them because they did not satisfy the customer.

Blog Regulation

Blogs, weblogs or web logs nowadays are becoming more a trend than a fad. Away back, they are merely on-line journals or entries of one’s chronological thoughts. Today, blogs are channels of affection, drama, excitement and enthusiasm, passion, vengeance, and many more. They are even mediums for money-making.

It is interesting to note that there are already discussions, feature articles and news reports in TV, radio and newspapers about blogs. Blogs seemed to have also invaded the mass media.

With the freedom of expression afforded to bloggers, weblogs also become an avenue to attack an individual or group of individuals which maybe based on truth or on malicious intents of a person or a group. Because of this, there are news reports and discussions about the need to regulate blogs.

If this move will be pursued, I am just thinking of how the process of regulating will be done. Are the laws we have on libel enough? Can someone sue a blogger or can a blogger be sued for an opinion made based on Article 353 of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines?
