Notions of the Young

On one occasion,

Kay: Do you think Lozada is a hero?

Me: No. Do you think he is?

Kay: No. Though I must admit that we should not take for granted what he did for the country.

On another occasion,

Me: Do you think it's enough reason to say that a person is bad or of low morals if he or she did not have a successful marriage?

Kay: Of course not.

Daryl: That's being judgmental. There are people who stay in a marriage because they do not want to ruin the family though they suffer.

Kay: People sometimes have limited reasoning.

On yet another occasion,

Kay: Natabunan na ang issue kay Lozada (Lozada's issue has been buried.)

Me: Oo nga, e (Yes, it's true.) Natabunan na ng issue sa kakulangan ng bigas (Covered by the rice shortage issue).

Again, another occasion,

Kay: Why are people judged as bad if they are agnostic?

Me: (Silent, busy listening to other issues discussed in the dining table. Contemplated on the question a little later but did not respond.)

Last night,

Daryl: You have to give me P300.

Me: What for?

Daryl: For my graduation pics. That old woman photographer was harassing the students. No student should reject a copy. Though you don't like a shot, you still have to pay for it. Isn't this an old story in our alma mater, ate?

Kay: Stupid folks. You had graduated already and you are still forced to pay for all the pics.

Daryl: It's the system. She has connections in the school. I was told she's a relative of one of the officials in the school.

Kay: Dapat yan inirereklamo na (There must be someone who must complain.)

Me: Nobody complains?

Daryl: Naku, no one. Perhaps because of that idea na malakas siya.

  1. I'm not saying that agnostics are good. But there are definitely a lot of Believers worse than agnostics. Usama binladen prays 5 times a day; Hitler signed a concordat with the vatican as a sign of respect (he could have smashed through it like a juggernaut), W. Bush is a bornagain christian. His misguided policy in Iraq has claimed the lives of 4,000 americans--Forget about counting the lives of Iraqi women and children lost during the American INVASION. They are too numerous to count.

These people definitely remind me of a biblical passage: "the gentiles (which includes agnostics) blashpheme my name because of thee". The verse is somewhere in the book of romans. I myself make a lot of effort to stop cursing everytime I watch CNN (Thank GOD for Jon Stewart. he does that for me.)

  2. BTW, Lozada didn't do anything for the country. What should outrage us is what the leaders of the country could have done to him if his allegations (of kidnapping and frustrated murder) were true.

  3. Debatable topics naman. Pero, I guess everything in this life is debatable and even if it can't be, people will still try to make a debate out of it.

  4. sometimes we are members of a debate club, sidney. :-)

and Gloria and FG are Catholics, tk, and i bet a number of their comrades are. there are even Vatican scandals such as this. there are news about these so called baptist pastors scandals. and these are probably the reasons why it is a big question for my daughter why there are people who can easily discriminate or alienate others and claim they are good people when they are even guilty of sin. i guess the terms 'good' and 'bad' must be classified as to what aspect.

i don't agree that Lozada did not do anything for the country, tk. he might not be a hero but he chose to decide on doing what must be done though it would endanger him and his family. if there are no whistle blowers or if we will all be silent about wrongdoings, what will happen? actually, everybody should be standing firm on their convictions.

yes, kyels . but it is important to remember that if i dont agree with you or with anybody, that does not mean that i dont like you, or that somebody. that will not mean that those who oppose my beliefs and opinions are lesser individuals. in fact. to speak out what one thinks is a healthy way of discussing things and even resolving them. :-)

  5. I honestly do not know what to say. I keep on deleting the words that I type. Perhaps, all I can do is to just do what I think is good and according to, at least, the norms of the society I currenlty live in. Walang nangyayari sa pilipinas eh. :( Bakit kaya ganun. Di ko alam. Di ako ganon katalino. =(

  6. hi, julius. :-) natawa naman ako dun sa sinabi mo. i think di kailangang maging matalino para maunawaan kung ano ang nangyayari. Nothing happens in the Philippines because of graft and corruption, of incompetent and greedy leaders, and because of us perhaps.

  7. Methinks that Lozada should serve his purpose well, that's why a lot of people supports him. Yet as of now, he's busy being a joker or a joke, smiling with those poker face smile.

As if he wasn't a grafter once. Before he goes around like a clown, he should make do with his
aim of exposing and pinpointing the culprits in the ZTE Controversy.

  8. that is one observation, too< major tom. nagiging over na ang ad libs minsan that is why ang dating parang di seryoso.

the good thing about him is he did not deny that he once had given in to subtle temptations. and who didnt? maybe these are the reasons why he were so hesitant at first to talk about what is happening. mahirap magsakripisyo sa bayang ito na puro kamalasaduhan ang nangyayari. my qualms about the time he decided to talk was where his act would lead to. nalulungkot ako na walang kinapupuntahan ang lahat at parang stage play lang ang nangyari. :-(
