They make one an addict and dependent to the core. Habitués have this overpowering compulsion to use these killers. It would be a challenge to break the addiction. Especially when Papa got acquainted with them when he was only 14 years old. He died 61, stopped only about two years using them. That's 45 years of addiction.
I am thankful I did not become an addict and was able to break off from the bait. I could have been a walking dead, too, rotten with the deadly and chronic emphysema, or other lung ailments, or a lung cancer.
My poor Papa. His best friends were all he have during those down times, I know. And his buddies during relaxation and freedom from life's worries. I know he knew that the the day will come they're going to make him pay. And they made him pay with bad ramification.

ReplyDeletei'm sorry to hear about what happened to your father...i'm glad that you were able to stop it...my dad also smoked before but my sister scared him regarding cigarettes...heheh
ReplyDeleteBing my folks were both smokers up until I was around 7 yo. Then mom's ENT advised her to stop it altogther because it was irritating her throat. Amazingly, both of them quit cold turkey.
ReplyDeleteNow that I'm older I nag (lovingly) my mom each time me and my brother go down with some respiratory (colds etc) problems. I keep telling her this was all caused by the second hand smoke we all had to breathe when they were smoking. Of course nobody knew back then about all the harmful effects of smoking.
It's another surprise too that in our family only one of us took to smoking. He no longer smokes.
a great reminer Bing. Cigarettes induce people to inhale carbon monoxide ugh :( It's a menace of society IMO. I'm wondering when cigarettes will be banned permanently. I guess governments are worried the economic disaster should tobacco companies are closed down
ReplyDeletei am just so glad that your sister was able to prevent your father, ruby! :-D
ReplyDeleteand that is a very nice news to hear, photocache. if there will be one individual who will stop smoking every hour, then this world will be safe. :-)
this says that you do not smoke, bw? that is nice, very nice. :-D
It is so interesting to think of the concept of addiction or obsession. The connection between the body and soul. The conscious and the subsconscious. The body telling you to do something that is bad for you that you need it to live. People that have not experienced chemical addiction cannot understand.
ReplyDeletei am glad i am not an addict, carl.
