Often we feel envy towards people who has success, good fortune, superior qualities, or countless possessions.
It is envy that drives the unintelligent humans to group against an intelligent one. Fanning the flames, they would recruit other unintelligent beings as scheming as them to plot against the intelligent one. Then making it more sinister, they even go to levels of character assassination, backbiting, or shares of cold shoulders.
It is envy that forces one to praise good-looking creatures then nitpicks when they leave. In the midst of admirers, a jealous creature envenoms them with seemingly concerned warnings about the good-looking creature. A jealous creature could not find something nice about a good-looking creature instead finds flaws that can be hurled to the admirers making the wonders of awe turn into disenchantment.
Most of the time, the envious ones refuse to look at a beauty, or accept a genius. As if their disapproval matters, as if it makes them better than the other or higher than the other.
Is this feeling of envy natural? It is. But one can be envious without hurting others. It is a natural emotion to want what others have. It is but natural to desire. Nevertheless, it isn’t natural to inflict pain or agony to others because you wanted also what they abundantly have but couldn’t have.
Someone said it is better envied than pitied. True. But envy could kill. Pity couldn't.
For a moment there I thought you were writing about our politicians... LOL!
ReplyDeleteSuccess, fame, and fortune is an invitation to envy. Just look at Bill Gates...
Pity could kill. it's called euthanasia.
ReplyDeleteagree, single. it is ok to feel envy, wag lang isiping ikidnap for ransom si billy, ok lang ang ma-feel yun he he
ReplyDeleteha ha 'nga, 'no??! that's a nice one, TK. didnt think of it.
Ever seen that 28 year old woman featured in Larrky King who spent $80,000 to "re-to-ke" almost all parts of her body to look amazing? The results were far from convincing. She looked like a no more than a younger version of Joan Rivers. In the end, she had to go for psychological counseling. Sure enough, it is not hard to figure out that there was something wrong with her.
ReplyDeleteThere's a saying - the world is divided into those who look at others enviously and those who look at others as a motivational tool.
then everybody should use envy as a motivational tool. but there is danger there also. the desire to be more or better drives one to go further.
ReplyDeletedidnt see that feature, bw.
According to the Basic Laws of Human Stupidity, Third Rule, human beings fall into four basic categories: the helpless, the intelligent, the bandit and the stupid. As defined in basic law, "A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses."
ReplyDeleteSo as stated in this post, the envious people falls in the last category.
Sorry for my use of this word.
you dont have to, rolly. because it is really stupidity. it made me wonder about reasons why a person or a group will resort to baseless talk just to ruin somebody, or influence others to think the same. it is really nonsensical.
ReplyDeleteEnvy is only for the incompetent and the insecure. Each man has been given a gift all his own. It is incumbent upon him to find out with this is, harness, hone and make it grow.
ReplyDeleteOne of the more potent tools of the envious is creating chismis. And there are times they do succeed in bringing the subject of their envy down. How sinister, no?
swak na swak, for the incompetent and insecure. as to bringing their subject down, i do believe nobody can put a good man down, mr rolly.
ReplyDeletehi!
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by my blog and for tagging :)
yeah, envy does solicit chismis. i have been a victim of that. bleh. i don't mind having people envious of me (shempre! hehe) but it's just pathetic how other people resort to fabricating stories just to put someone down. kakainis! this topic is too close to home for me. argh.
hehe.
anyways, yeah, i agree with you too that nobody can put a good person down. so like a phoenix, i've risen from the flames too. naks!
again, thanks for dropping by my blog. nice place you got here too. :)
Ay naku ... I've seen enough cases how envy only dragged down people's lives. While still young our mother taught us to be happy for others' success and fortune; in so doing, she believes, will attract good in our life as well. Personally, being happy for others makes me "lighter" as I travel on with my life.
ReplyDeletehello, jaymster bean! actually, its flattery when people admire and want to be like you or want to have what you have. but when they start to be serious about it to the point of destroying you, iba na yun.
ReplyDeletei like your place, too!
i like that, eric - to be happy for others making one lighter as he travels on with life. i remember when my daughter was younger, she sulked upon seeing that her cousin was dressed in a beautiful outfit with laces because she was put only on a jumper. i talked to her secretly that it is bad to feel that way and to be imitating others. it helped teaching my daughter that she has her own identity, that she is one unique individual. guess i succeeded.
envy is part of human nature, our desire for perfection, material wealth, gain among others will lead us to envy those that we see as better than us or having more than us.
ReplyDeleteEven when as an infant, humans display behaviours of being envy and such. It all boils down to disicpline and control.
very true, jhay...
grass is always greener on the other side right? admiring the grass and making your's greener and better is one thing, but poisoning the other's is another.
ReplyDeleteill just take comfort knowing that its natural to have desires
tama ka dun, ka webspy
ReplyDeletehi, will, such an evil thing to think about poisoning God's creation... it is but natural to desire.
"When a true genius appears in the world you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him."

that's a familiar one, nico..
