Christmas Tree and Gifts on October?

I had assembled the 6-ft Christmas tree 3rd week of October. I had already wrapped some gifts a week earlier. Then some exclamations of ‘why so early’?

Why not? I don’t believe that I am the only one doing the early gift wrapping and setting up the Christmas tree. On my part, I do them early because I don’t have much time. If I think of having this time, for example, to wrap the gifts, I wrap them, because most probably it will be difficult for me to find time doing them with inspiration. I always do things with passion, even with choosing the gifts and wrapping them. Not that I spend extravagantly for gaudy gifts and wrappers but I do wrap them neatly and pile them in order under or beside the Christmas tree.

And the Christmas tree. It gives me this feeling of hope and joy. It reminds me of the coming season. But does everybody know that the tree was once a pagan symbol of fertility? It became a Christian symbol of rebirth, according to information, when Marthin Luther got so awed by the beauty of fir trees that he brought one from the forest and lighted it with candles to remind his children of God’s creation.

So when do you set up your Christmas tree? The gifts can come later. (Anyway, my name’s only a four-letter one; very easy to remember.)

  1. It's been a long time since we've set up a Christmas tree in the house. And that's because we're just too lazy to take it apart after the season's over.

  2. Good for you, Bing! You're like my sister: if she can do things now, she'll do it. I'm the procastinator type. Last year, I put up our Christmas three only during the first week of December (I think).

Christmas is not a big deal in Switzerland. That's why I miss "Paskong Pinoy" so much every December.

  3. ERRATUM: Christmas "TREE" instead of Christmas "THREE." :-)

BTW, I like your new blog template.

  4. ay, oo, single! yun ang nakakatamad...

i will be the one who'll suffer anyway, jayred, if i procrastinate. kakaiba yata talaga ang 'Paskong Pinoy'.

thanks for appreciating the new template. :-)

  5. hi bing,

i used to go all out production christmas decors. not anymore!!! at this age it'd be really foolish to hang those christmas lights on the eaves of the roof. forget it !
i'm to cheap to hire someone to hang it for me! hahaha. i'll just hang a parol instead...lot easier!

  8. We don't spend too much time setting up a christmas tree every christmas season, or should I say it's not usual for us ...parang wala lang :) .... doon sa bahay namin sa pinas .... but is great here is nag oover flow ang mga bisita sa bahay, since ang celebration e sunod-sunod from christmas to new year hanggang tondo fiesta, friends and relatives mula pa sa kung saan nakikipag christmas sa amin... it's not the decorsnor the christmas gift that matters ....... kundi ang sobre hanggang tondo fiesta lol!!! just kidding ...but the truth is I'm very glad that these people don't forget to spend their christmas with us :)

  9. hmm, there's nothing early about having the Christmas spirit in one's house. We usually put up our tree on the first day of the simbang gabi. But the christmas season starts way early in our house, too.

so I guess I'd be the first one to greet you -

    Merry Christmas!

  10. hi. stranger. isang dahilan din yun. :-) be well and ingat lagi. take a break din paminsan minsan.

taray naman ng christmas celebration ninyo, melai. kung tila fiesta yan, tiyak mas magastos he he i agree that it is not in the decorations and gifts. it would be skindeep if your house is ornamented with beautiful christmas lights and extravagant christmas tree decors but the owner is a jackanape.

merry christmas, too, mr rolly. thank you. you are actually the first one to greet me. :-)

  12. I set up decorations right after halloween. My kids are very excited even though christmas is not well celebrated here. But there's one store here who sells x'mas decors (patago).

  13. October is too early for me. .. I'd like to buy and cut my own pine tree from a farm and bring it home for the Xmas tree, normally 1st week of Dec. People celebrate Xmas big time in Toronto but only in Dec. Pinas is exceptional.. bawing bawi ang Xmas sa atin .. magastos! sobra ang haba - hanggang end of January the airport is still playing Little Drummer Boy...

  14. We dont decorate our house on xmas...

  15. 'ba yan?!? late pa pala yun he he maligayang araw ng mga puso, nico. mukhang maligaya talaga puso mo, a, at ang napili ay hapi valentine's day greeting!

parang ang hirap, no, ann? pano kung mahuli??

nice to know that Toronto celebrate Christmas big time, bw. sabi kasi ng iba malungkot ang Christmas sa ibang bansa.

that's sad, mon... but it is the spirit really that makes us happy. :-)

  18. We usually put the tree up around last week of Nov or first week of Dec. Mabuti ka pa may nakahanda nang regalo. Ako'y nag-iipon pa ng pambili. :) Like jayred, I'm also a procrastinator kaya nasasabit ako lagi sa Christmas rush. :(

  19. 'lam mo, noypetes, for me, walang tatalo sa Christmas sa Pinas. maganda tingnan ang white christmas, oo, kaya lang ayoko ng maginaw na maginaw na Christmas. bongga naman ang treat nyo - disneyland at pabiyahe-biyahe. :-)

talaga nga sigurong kaka-miss ang Pasko sa Pinas, din-din..

ayoko ko kasi ng Christmas rush, irene, ayoko ng masikip, ayoko ng mabaho, ayoko! (sori, sobra yata akong nadala sa pag emote he he :-) ).

  20. We celebrate Xmas in a very very quiet way. We have Noche Buena of course and gift giving... but I think what really is exciting is the mass before the midnight feast with my sisters... then we'll walk home together (walking back home is the tradition here in our place since our cathedral is on the top of a hill)... as cold wind carresses our faces... man, I love xmas.

  21. Speaking of Christmas tree, please visit the Mall of Asia on November 11. I've been there yeaterday. If they are true to what they are saying, it would be the biggest.

Merry Christmas na sa yo hanggang dito ako.
