What is Interesting By the Way?

The bloglandia is growing. More and more interesting bloggers are emerging. But what is interesting by the way? It is subjective. What is interesting to me may not be to anybody. No point at issue. No reason for anybody to be cynical why a fellow blogger is interested about another blog but not hers or his.

I just can't help recalling how some talented bloggers once made fun of the styles and content of some blogs. Maybe it was pure fun but it did not register to me that it was fun. For me, it's offensive, and that they were egotists. How I was tempted to leave a mark - "Why don't you take a whack at it?" I mean, if somebody writes a journal for example, and that is not the way you wanted to present your blog because you simply cannot do a journal then why not try. See if you can put up with the cynicism you might be getting doing something not really your flair.

I think blogging is like our way of life. What we write says so much about ourselves the way our dress, our habits, our circle of friends, our beliefs and principles, or our faith tells that much about ourselves. Blogging is somehow sharing a piece of ourselves, and that includes what can be interesting to the readers.

Admittedly though, there are bloggers who are really talented, and gets almost everybody's attention. They have the panache that gets visitors hooked. But some of them are not necessarily normal, moral, true, A1, articulate, brilliant, successful, or anything that is conventional (for some others point of view) but they have the talent and they share pieces of their lives which are actually resembling what the many visitors' pieces of life have. They have what it takes to be appealling to most of the visitors and the readers.

So, interesting is subjective. Anyone can always visit one blog that has interesting concepts more frequently but that cannot be equivalent to saying that the other bloggers are not interesting persons themselves.

  1. I am very thankful that none of my readers, I mean people who come by my blog, haven't yet checked my grammar.

uhm... are you aware that I categorized you in my links as my favorite?

  2. they should not do that in the first place, mon. well, perhaps they can but they should do it in a way not to offend. i am aware of that, mon. you did not read my reply in the previous post he he :-)

  3. Well, blogging is a personal thing. It's either you like that person's blog or you don't. And you're right in that there are some blogs that we very find interesting -- great even -- but is "ho-hum" to some people. My analogy of this is like an exotic dish that you have developed a taste for.

Have a great week ahead, Bing.

  4. I agree. "Interesting" is subjective. As a reader, I find blogs with personal touch interesting. As a writer, I just try to be myself.

  5. And that is the reason why you're in my Favorites list, Bingskee. =)

  6. I agree with verns. I 'm not interested in reading posts with copy paste articles.

  7. there are many great blogs indeed, with substantial content, single, that are not even visited. i noticed that the deeper the psyche the more it is unappealing to many. i guess it is how readers relate.

true, verns. those with personal touch speak sometimes that the owners are friendly.

and what exactly is the reason, mr houseband? :-) thank you very much. 'tis such an honor.

the copy paste articles can be beneficial din naman, ann. pero nawawala kasi ang personal touch pag puro copy pasted ang content.

  9. Good for you to tackle this point head on Bing. Yes, blogging is 100% subjective. There are no hard and cut rules for blogging because admittedly, there are a multitude of reasons why people blog ! Therefore you are absolutely right - people bloghop to find what interests them :) And I said before that no matter how pedestrian one's blog is, he could never be at par with professional writers who are in the fray, yet he hopes to appeal to those who are like himself, who are willing to listen to what he has to say :)

If people wish to play the numbers game, aka getting hits and making money through ads and what not, the challenge to that person is to do it but remain true to himself . You are also right that there are blogs written by good writers who don't get any comments and they don't bother and I can think of 2 reasons - a. they think they are in their zone and don't really care about reader feedback b. if they adjust, then they're not being true to themselves :)

Say if I blog about movie reviews or music reviews but I'm neither movie or music nut and therefore lagging in critical knowledge yet I want to get hits to make money out of blogging what would you think my blog would look like? A cut and paste blog perhaps ? with links to sites but nary an introspective review :)

To those who say and impose their belief on what blogging should be and "those talented bloggers who made fun of the styles and content of some blogs", go ahead, make your day. After all blogging is an open to everyone, kahit ano trip mo. I only hope that they have the balls and the character to accept nasty comments.

  12. ha ha ang alam kong version nyan, noypetes - "kung ayaw mo, wag mo!" :-D

exactly, bw. sounds cliche pero kanya-kanya lang. but i can take critical points of views or positive criticisms but not making fun of others' weaknesses, in whatever way others do it. :-)

    Thank you.

  14. walang anuman, rolly. salamat din. :-D

  15. no problem, ipanema. i like the comment. it's more like expounding on the subject matter. we have something in common pala. kakatuwa kasing ma obserbahan na ang gauge ng iba for a brilliantly written post e ang dami ng commenters. this can be true in some aspect kung me progressive and spontaneous exchange of comments. but some others naman e walang ganun. maaaring maraming kaibigan na gusto lang mag hi o maghello. or magpacute he he but i dont have anything against it. ibang usapan iyon. this is more about what is interesting to some maybe is not to another group.

it's not proper naman to be making comments about others' blog and how they are written. to each his own. e kung yun ang trip ano magagawa ng visitor. he can choose to leave or leave a mark he he

  16. Blogging for me is a hobby, an outlet, a journal of sorts and yes, i can write what I want. Comments are always a plus and at the same time the instant interaction gives it more substance. I tend to comment on subjects I have something to say about and I'm glad my readers come out to read and leave a comment even to simply say hi.

I bloghop too and dont leave a comment. I just want to know what's new with my blog friend/s and sometimes I simply have nothing to say.

    ReplyDelete
  17. hi, leah. i also bloghop and do not comment if the subject matter requires no coment. :-)

  18. Blogging is a way of opening up one's self, that includes receiving unsolicited comments, also degrading criticisms. When you blog, you're inviting everyone to take a look at you. They'll either praise or criticize you. Nonetheless, it only proves that "you" are interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  19. that's a nice way to put it. but when somebody gives a degrading criticism, will it suffice the idea that the blogger is interesting?
