New Year. Why is it that when new year unfolds, we always feel full of hope? We feel that everything is possible. We feel upbeat and shun the possibility of failure. We dream big. We feel exultant, jubilant or triumphant. Like building castles in the air.
There is Someone bigger than we are there. Believe it or not. He gives the hope, that exultant feeling, that optimism. Non-belief that there is Someone who gives the purpose of the life we have does not rule out the truth. Pragmatism and other philosophical views do not overshadow His existence. Believe it or not.
But this is not to compel you to believe and I wouldn’t want to play a physician telling the ‘truth’ to the patient, because I am not sure if the patient wants to hear it. (Richard Clarke Cabot (1868 - 1939), U.S. physician, 1963)
Paradoxically, THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE.

Hi, Rhada! Have a blessed New Year, too! God bless you and your family.
ReplyDeleteA Healthy & Prosperous New Year for you and your family, Bing!
ReplyDeleteI am one of those who believe that our inner desires of good are God's desires for us. It is up to the individual to believe whether or not s/he can actualize those desires or believe those around him/her that s/he cannot.
Happy New Year to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteHumans beings are interesting. We are the only species that lie to ourselves: We say we don't when we do, we didn't when we did. In fact, we trive on our small lies to make us feel good.
ReplyDeleteWe all hope to do what we think are the right things in life. We become pragmatist to this end. Truth becomes relative. The color of gray dilutes our extreme views.
Without doubt some things are true whether we believe or not. However, cultures vary, if not differ in its interpretation.
There is one universal truth no one can disbelieve. Need I say what truth that is?
Happy New Year Bing!
ReplyDeleteIt is not only at the start of the year that we should feel hope but every waking day! So it is not just a happy new year but a happy everyday to you!

oh, elizabeth... one of a kind greeting yan, a. you are very right... we should have that feeling hope every minute of our lives.
ReplyDeletehappy new year to you!
So true......absolutely!
ReplyDeleteSeek the truth, (sometimes it hurts though) and the truth can set you free!
Once again...Happy New Year mam!! Blessings and more!!!
I agree with your post, Bing. And may I add, truth is independent of the number of its believers. It's possible that you are the only one who is correct and the rest of the world incorrect. (Think Galileo and Copernicus.)
ReplyDeleteHowever, there is a debate, even today, on what constitutes truth. Facts are truth, and everybody agrees with that; they are the empirical truths. However, some people don't agree that non-facts (the non-empirical ones, such as religious beliefs) can constitute truth, too; they merely consider those beliefs "opinions".
Maybe in the end, we might end like a confused Pontius Pilate: "What is truth?"
It's all about faith,that's all. Have a great 2006 bing! :D
ReplyDeleteNony and PerryV are right. But a dose of optimism is never a bad thing. Especially during the start of the New Year. Just be sure to keep your feet planted here on earth, and your head not buried in the ground or way above the clouds. Let's enjoy the start of the YEAR guys!... and start doubting much, much later nalang.
