I was never fond of boxing. It is still a brutal sport for me. What with the permanent damage it could cause, and rarely, the untimely death it could award a boxer. But somehow the defeat defeated my not being fond of it and found myself sympathizing with “Manila Ice”. Manny Pacquiao was beaten on the 12th round with 115-113 results.
It is during these times that Filipinos unite. For years, I have observed that Filipinos are one when it comes to Manny Pacquaio and the other boxers who compete for the nation’s pride. I am amazed by the power from this sport that draws Filipinos, from the kids to the oldies, into one big group of ally and followers. Why is it, I really do not know. Boxing really is a crowd gatherer.
If somebody would ask my opinion about it, I would gladly say that Manny Pacquaio did his part for the country’s pride, though not his best. He has his own fundamental techniques, his own sweet science but I guess the training is not that sound. I am still a Filipino and saying this would not mean that I am not – the techniques probably was carefully, or more appropriate to say, intelligently considered by the opponent. We could always say things against the opponent because we are Pacquiao’s fellow men. Well, I still believe that a sound training and an in-depth assessment of the opponent’s technique for a bout could never be outdone.
Good grief… but still Manny Pacquaio is one hell of a fighter. As I have heard from around me, it was not a demoralizing defeat.
